ALLENTOWN - Over 680 young campers came from far and wide to attend River Crossing YMCA’s Let Your Colors Shine celebration and field day on Thursday July 31 at Grange Park. Y campers ages six-12 from 16 camps in Bucks, Northampton, Lehigh and Hunterdon (NJ) counties intermingled through arts and crafts, sports and group spirit activities throughout the morning, bookended by opening and closing ceremonies for the entire group.

The second annual Let Your Colors Shine event began with opening ceremonies for all, featuring camp chants and songs from Jayden Battle, the Y’s camp director at the Deer Path branch in Flemington, NJ. To their surprise, the campers were joined by popular mascots Melvin from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms hockey team, Fefe from the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs baseball team, and the Y’s own Buckster the dancing gopher. Along with rotating in groups through games, sports and team-building, campers decorated their own flags, all of which could be seen waving proudly during the closing ceremonies.

“Let Your Colors Shine brings our campers all together to meet each other, play together and learn about each other,” explained Danielle Cioffi, who oversees River Crossing YMCA summer camp programs. “For them it’s like a big party, but what we see is kids meeting for the first time, playing as a team and being themselves. I couldn’t be more grateful to the sponsors and partners for making this event possible for our campers.”

The Y’s Let Your Colors Shine event was made possible by sponsors and partners Penn Color, The Giant Company, Key Bank, GMG Insurance, GAF Wind Gap Team, JKJ and Doylestown Health. Volunteers representing KeyBank, Penn Medicine, The Giant Company and Univest were on hand to help provide the joyful camper experience. Visitors also included US Congressman Ryan Mackenzie (D7), and representatives from the offices of PA State Senator Nick Miller, PA State Senator Jarrett Coleman and PA State Representative Jeanne McNeill.
