Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED With Administering Emergency Oxygen
This American Red Cross course combines online learning with hands on, instructor led training to provide a complete learning experience. Upon successful completion, participants receive an OSHA compliant American Red Cross certification.
Course Format
This is a Blended Learning course that combines:
- Online coursework, completed at your own pace before attending class.
- Instructor led, in person training at your selected River Crossing YMCA branch.
Time Commitment
Plan for approximately:
- 2 to 3 hours of online coursework.
- 2.5 hours of in person classroom instruction.

Refunds are available up to one week prior to the course start date, less a $50 processing fee.
Lifeguard Training (with Deep Water)
The American Red Cross Lifeguarding (with Deep Water) course prepares participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies in both shallow water (less than 7 feet) and deep water (7 feet or more). Participants also learn professional level CPR, AED and First Aid skills to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) arrive.
Upon successful completion, participants will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguarding (including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, First Aid and Administering Emergency Oxygen (AEO) certification, valid for 2 years.
Course Format
This is a Blended Learning course that combines:
- Online coursework, completed at your own pace before attending class.
- Instructor led, in person training, where participants practice and demonstrate required skills.
The online portion can be completed on a desktop computer, tablet or mobile device.

Prerequisites
Participants must meet all of the following requirements before enrolling:
- Minimum Age-Be at least 15 years old on or before the final scheduled class.
- Swim, Tread, Swim Sequence Successfully complete the following continuous skills assessment:
- Jump into the water, fully submerge and resurface.
- Swim 150 yards using front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs.
- Swim an additional 50 yards using front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
- Timed Skills Assessment | Complete the following sequence in 1 minute, 40 seconds or less:
- Start in the water and swim 20 yards.
- Surface dive to a depth of 7 to 12 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object.
- Return to the surface.
- Swim 20 yards on your back while holding the object at the surface with both hands.
- Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Lifeguarding Recertification Training
The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Recertification course is an abbreviated renewal program designed for currently certified lifeguards or those whose certification has expired within the past 30 days. This one day course reviews and evaluates the essential knowledge and skills needed to maintain your professional lifeguarding certification.
Participants should arrive prepared, as all skills must be performed at or above the required proficiency level. Practicing your lifeguarding skills before class is strongly encouraged.
Upon successful completion, participants will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, First Aid and Administering Emergency Oxygen (AEO) certification, valid for 2 years.
Course Format
This is a one day, instructor led recertification course designed for experienced lifeguards renewing their certification.

- Hold a valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid certification, or
- Have a certification that expired no more than 30 days before the course start date.

Lifeguarding Instructor Training
The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Training course prepares instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding programs and related safety courses. Participants will learn how to deliver effective instruction, evaluate skills and prepare future lifeguards to respond to aquatic emergencies.
Upon successful completion, instructors may be eligible to teach American Red Cross courses, including:
- Lifeguarding
- Shallow Water Lifeguarding
- Aquatic Attraction Lifeguarding
- Waterpark Skills
- Waterfront Skills
- CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers
- Bloodborne Pathogens Training
Course Format

- Current Lifeguarding Certification | Possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid certification.
Skills Assessment
Candidates must successfully demonstrate all required lifeguarding and CPR skills, including a pre-course assessment consisting of:
- Performing a water rescue involving a submerged victim.
- Completing an extrication.
- Performing single rescuer CPR for 3 minutes.

Lifeguarding Instructor Recertification Training
Course Overview
The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Recertification Training course is a one day renewal program designed for lifeguards who need to maintain their certification. This abbreviated course reviews and evaluates the knowledge and skills required to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and provide professional level emergency care.
Participants should arrive prepared, as all required skills must be performed at or above the required proficiency level. Practicing your lifeguarding skills before class is strongly encouraged.

Babysitter Training with Pediatric First Aid, CPR
The American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training with Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course is designed for youth ages 12 and older who want to build the skills and confidence needed to safely care for infants and children.
Through interactive discussions, videos and hands on activities, participants will learn essential babysitting skills, including child safety, feeding, diapering, holding, basic caregiving techniques and how to respond during emergency situations.
Upon successful completion, participants will receive an American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
Course Format
This is a Blended Learning course that combines:
- Online coursework, completed at your own pace before attending class.
- Instructor led, in person training, where participants practice and apply babysitting and emergency response skills.
Course Topics
Participants will learn important skills, including:
- Infant and child care basics
- Feeding, diapering and safe handling techniques
- Child safety and injury prevention
- Emergency response procedures
- Pediatric First Aid
- CPR and AED skills for infants and children
